6 Reasons Why Black Men With Dreadocks Date Black Women Who Wear Braided Extensions

Hello one and all.  I come to you today with some insights that I have regarding the subject of men and dreadlocks.  My specific topic for this moment is Why Do Black Men With Dreadlocks Date Black Women Who Wear Extensions.  I have some answers to this question.  Some may not like it and some may totally agree.

First off I just want to say that I really don't care if people choose to wear braided extensions, or fake hair of any kind.  It is not my life journey so who am I to judge. I learned many years ago what works for me. And extensions, fake hair, relaxers, jeri curls etc.  not for me at all. What may make no sense to some is that some black women still like to have the versatility of having long hair one month and having their natural out.

I made assumptions about black men with dreadlocks.  I assumed that they would only be attracted to black women who were on a natural hair journey. I thought that because they love their dreadlocks then they would only want to be with someone who has similar views about what it is to have natural hair.  Especially black women in this world today.  So many black women are still wearing braided extensions.  It seems to have made a comeback of sorts.  I have noticed more black women wearing braided extensions of different colors like back in the 80's.  It is yet another hair trend once again resurfacing from the not so distant past.

Black Women used to and still do view braided extensions as a protective style.  I am not here to judge that.  I just know that from personal experience of having braided extensions in the late 80's they are not for me on my spiritual journey. It felt odd and wrong for me to use synthetic or even worse human hair on my head.  I am not saying that I am more spiritual than someone who wears braided extensions either.  I am just a bit surprised that someone who is so into the naturalness of their own hair can be with someone who is not.  Especially when it comes to two people coming together as a spiritually divine couple.

But that is not what everyone on this Earth wants.  I know that many black women are teased about their hair and there is a certain level of professionalism that we black women have to maintain in order  to get a job, get respect, and find love.  So that is what so many black women have been sold through commercial ads on tv, through cheesy ass movies supposedly catered to the black community and the rising of respect for the black woman.  A black man can step outside his home with freeform dreadlocks and no one would bat an eye in the neighborhood I am living in.  But once my crown is exposed all laugh and point or walk away quickly in fear.

I still feel as though deep down inside the reason why black women still wear extensions is because they feel like there is a lack somewhere.  And when I say a lack, I mean a lack of confidence to sport whatever length of hair you have.  Little black girls dream of having long straight hair flowing in the breeze with hair reaching the length of the floor. The longer the extensions the more inadequate the feelings are about the self.  I know there will be black women who read this blog and get mad because they still get extensions put in their hair.  If you are going to get extensions know why.  I don't just get them just because it's in style or because you wish to have long long hair to catch a mate.  I got caught in that trap  and got out successfully.

I have to admit that it does irk me a bit if a black man has really long dreadlocks and talks about the importance of natural hair  and loving women with dreadlocks and natural hair but then started getting interested in a woman with braided extensions.  The psychology is real on the reason why black men with dreadlocks date women  who wear extensions.  There can be a number of reasons.  I am going to list a few:

1. As a little boy a black man may have seen his mom wear wigs, get her hair braided with synthetic or human hair.

2. As a little boy a black man may have seen many commercials of black women and relaxer commercials, carefree curl commercials etc.

3.  As a little boy a black man may have seen that most of the little black girls in the school that he attends 5 days a week always have their hair processed with a relaxer, in extension braids, or with a carefree curl

4.As an adult a black man may have witnessed how black women with straightened hair, a wig on, or braided extensions get better jobs and more respect.

5. As an adult a black man may have dated a white woman and become use to the straightness of her hair and decided that her just prefers for his mate to have uniform, totally conformist hair so as not to embarrass him.

6. As an adult a black man may notice that if he takes woman with braided extensions home to his mom he may gain more respect that if he were to bring home a black woman with freeform dreadlocks.

My point in talking about this subject in the first place is that black woman of this earth have been brainwashed just as much as black men have been on this planet.  Our concerns and our rights became watered down over time and we have become complacent.  Black men have turned away from black women who have decided to let their hair freeform . I see more and more black men feeling so self conscious about who they are with and still following trends and pop culture.

How can a black man claim to have total love for his natural hair and still be involved in a relationship with a black woman who does not appreciate or care for the natural curl and length of her hair. Women seem to always want a quick fix in order to look approachable to the male sex. Why ? Because the love for the self is absent. I am done and have been done for several decades with trying to please the world with how I present my outside appearance.

So to conclude this what may seem like a rant about black women and black men not appreciating what is on their head, I would like to say that I have respect for both black women and black men because in this society I am seen to the world as a black woman with a nappy head.  Many people who are uneducated about my hair assume that I never wash my freeform dreadlocks and a lot of people don't even know what dreadlocks are .  Sounds crazy but I once had a woman ask me if the hair on my head was my own hair.  That was when my dreads gained some length.  My mother in law just called my dreads braids. Many automatically assume that I am dumb and not worth time talking to because I don't look like I am part of the herd.   Well I don't give a shit!

You Look Like Whoopi Goldberg

On my dreadlock journey I have been compared to one big time celebrity whom I don't like very much out there in Hollyweird.  That one celebrity is Whoopi Goldberg.  I feel as though I look nothing like Whoopi Goldberg and I don't feel as though my views on the world are the same as hers. I draw this conclusion from the documentary she hosted that I found on youtube.  I tried looking for the documentary on Youtube again so that I could show you all what I mean but it is no longer on Youtube.  I saw this documentary probably about 4yrs. ago.

The documentary that I saw all those years ago was about the mami figure in the old Tom and Jerry cartoons.  Within the documentary Whoopi Goldberg was making it seem like the character of the mami in Tom and Jerry was a monumental figure in history. I totally and completely disagree for several reasons that I would hope is obvious to one and all.  Now all that I can find is a video on Youtube showing that Whoopi Goldberg was allowed to put a warning label on the old Tom and Jerry cartoons with the offensive mami figure.  So first she glorifies the mami in the old Tom and Jerry cartoons and then she shuns it.  This bitch is whack for sure! And anyone who idolizes her needs their heads seriously examined.

I can't believe that people are still so entranced by her and her false representation of a someone who is trying to stick up for black people on this planet.  Just because she is a black woman with dreadlocks does not mean that she is highly evolved in any way whatsoever. People become so hypnotized by these Hollyweird stars and especially ones that are assumed to be spiritually grounded and  connected to what is really important on this planet.  I don't suggest that anyone look to celebrities as an example for how to be in this world.  We need to stop making all of these Hollyweird stars into Gods and Goddesses.

That is why I always emphasize that when you decide to embark upon a dreadlock journey let it be for you and not because some famous Hollyweird celebrity has dreadlocks and you want to look just like that person. And how do you even know that the dreadlocks on Whoopi Goldberg's heard are her own dreadlocks.  I could really care less if they are or not.  What concerns me is that little girls and young women look up to this lady and want to be and look just like her.

What would said little girl or young woman do if Whoopi decides to cut her locks off and shave her head.  Will we see a trend among black women sporting a bald head or a twa(teeny weeny afro) even?

So I leave you with a Youtube video I was able to find with Whoopi Goldberg and her warning about Mami two shoes and the racism within.  I do find many old school cartoons blatantly racist.  It is no surprise to me that Whoopi Goldberg is trying to make herself look like a saint once again and that documentary that I saw all of those years ago has vanished.

Flat Dreadlocks And Accepting What is

Today on my show Freeform Dreadlock talk I answer a viewer's question about how they can keep the dreadlocks in the back of their head from not becoming flat.  I basically answered the question based on what I have come to define Freeform Dreadlocks as being.  I have said this many times on my show but I don't mind repeating it.  To me Freeform Dreadlocks are formed freely.  My freeform dreadlocks are forming naturally at their own rate and in their own way.  That is what makes each person who has freeform dreadlocks different.  Our locks show our own individual personality.

I suggest that those who are embarking upon the freeform dreadlock journey to spend more time out within Mother Earth and to really tap into why you are really here on Earth in the first place.  Is your purpose to communicate solely through an artificial existence or are you here to live by example.  Are you here on planet Earth to attract the most friends, to be popular?  Or are you here for a much more spiritual reason.  I asked myself these questions in the beginning of my Freeform Dreadlock journey.  Mother Earth helped me to put things into perspective.

Many times people are influenced by what their friends and family think is best.  Is this a life that you want to live?  This life of conforming to what everyone else is doing is a life with no free will in my opinion.  You can live your life this way, but are you happy?  Do you feel uncomfortable with fitting into an impossible image of what your friends and family want you to be.

I was very vulnerable to friends and family in the beginning of my journey.  But as time went by I found myself wanting to be out in nature more, putting healthier foods and drinks in my body and tuning into my true life's purpose.  My true life's purpose does not involve following the herd.

Thank you all for stopping by to read my blog here.  I like to share what I learn on this journey.  Because to me having Freeform Dreadlocks for 19 yrs has helped me to see that I am not a soul who enjoys conformity.

Husbands and Dreadlocks

I was asked how I felt about a husband telling her wife to go to a salon to get dreadlocks instead of letting her hair freeform. I gave my honest and upfront view point on the matter.  This is your life and I don't feel as though people should rely on others to decide what their outer appearance should look like just because the two of you are married. I don't believe in the whole two halves make a whole when it comes to love relationships.  I believe that it is important to respect each others differences.  This woman is not doing anything damaging to herself or to anyone else by deciding to let her hair dread on its own.

Some people believe that they should conform to whatever their spouse says to do.  Why would anyone want to live this way? It just seems that people feel the need to control how you look, how you think, what you eat, who you choose to be friends with...  Too much control going on in this world over people that just want to express naturally how they are without being judged.

Not too many people would agree with my viewpoint.  That is just fine with me. It takes many individuals to make up this world.  We are not all the same.

I think that it is time that people tap into their intuition and meditate on things alone to get to the true purpose of why they are here.  I don't believe you should have to compromise how you look naturally just to make your spouse comfortable.  If you are wanting to let your hair naturally to freeform why should you consult with your husband about this.  Does he own you?  What kind of world is it when you have people dictate your life to you?

Fabric Dreadlock Bead Sizing And Polymer Clay Dreadlock Beads Coming Soon

Hello Everyone,
So I c
reated a video today based on a subscriber's question about sizing dreadlocks to fit dreadlock beads.  The fabric dreadlock beads that I create are formed around a pencil, a sharpie pen, and now I am experimenting with you a huge empty  thread spool.  Compare the size of your own dreadlock to either one of these object and you will know what size dreadlock bead would fit.

I also discuss how I have decided to make polymer clay dreadlock beads again.  I stopped making them to sale on my shop because I only sold I think about 2 or 3.  So because a subscriber requested I have ordered more clay.  It is not that I don't like making them.  I love making them it is just that for awhile I wasn't able to afford to buy some polymer clay because of some financial problems.  That is when I discovered fabric beads.  The thread is reasonably cheap and they are so durable if you  embroider them heavily.

Here are some photos of the fabric dreadlock beads I have recently finished and that I have posted on my etsy shop.  Thank you all for you love and support

So today ladies and gentleman I want to talk about judgements in regards to my Freeform Dreadlocks.  Here what I have to report for today on how I feel that people relate to me or don't relate to me.
Last night I went to my local grocery store and my antennae a.k.a. freeform dreadlocks were tingling in a bad way yet I have found if I stay focused in my mission that I can flow through the negative looks and the rude behavior.

The longer that I walk through this world with my freeform dreadlocks hanging from my head I feel more immune to the negative comments and snickers and also not to mention the not so subtle insults.

For instance there  is this woman that works at one the grocery stores that I go to always look uncomfortable talking to me when my freeform dreadlocks are not pulled up.  Because it does really seem that people respond differently when my hair is down in its lion's mane state.  But when it is pulled up in a relaxed bun people get more friendly.  Weird, so weird!  What would people do if they came in contact with a being from another planet with 4 eyes?

So anyway here are some photos so you can tell me if you see any difference in me a soul on the planet earth.

So I have been a busy little bee creating really cool fabric dreadlock beads.  I know how frustrating it can be to find dreadlock beads that are one of a kind and that are fancy enough for special occasions .  I don't like to fuss too much with my dreadlocks but I do really enjoy adorning them.  Some people like to dye their dreadlocks bright colors I prefer to wear beads.

On my etsy shop I have posted a variety of beads that I created and here they are. Thank you so much for all of your love and support.

Freeform Dreadlocks Herbs To Pick For Freeform Dreadlock Rinse

Hello Everyone.  So today on my darkmoondoll youtube channel I posted my show called Freeform Dreadlock Talk.  I host this show on Wednesday for those out there that are new to freeform dreadlocks and want to start your journey ask me your questions and I could work it into my future shows.

On today's show I discussed how to pick out the right herbs for your freeform dreadlocks rinse.  I emphasize how important it is to keep things simple.  Rosemary is my number one herb when it comes to keeping my locks healthy.  My main hair rinse consists of rosemary, spearmint and sage.  When I can get up to the river I find stinging nettles and horsetail.  I also talk about how important it is to not only nourish your hair on the outside but to make sure that you are putting enough nutrient dense foods into your body as well.

I hope you all find this bit of information helpful and feel free to leave questions at my email address which is

Hello Everyone out there in cyber world that is reading this post right now.  And for all of you that have been following this blog on my dreadlock journey thus far I apologize for not being more consistent with my posts.  I have been making videos for my show Freeform Dreadlock Talk on a consistent basis so I felt it fair to write more often in this blog to keep you all up to date.

I have been loving having my Freeform Dreadlocks and my dreads are 18 yrs old now. It is fascinating to me how much I have grown since I first started this journey .  I have still had negative energy thrown my way yet as the years go by I have become more confident in who I am and what my purpose is here on earth.  So those negative vibes don't trigger anger and hurt as much as in the past.

On today's Freeform Dreadlock Talk show I discussed how I feel about people claiming to be inspired by Bob Marley yet they go and get their dreadlocks maintained at a salon.

I think that there is a misunderstanding of what Bob Marley was about.  I don't believe that he would encourage people to do anything unnatural to there heads to go against Mother Nature/Mother Earth.

Just remember everyone this is my perspective based on my personal experiences and my own personal observations of how people behave and think

Here are my Freeform Dreadlocks at the present moment and the show.  Enjoy!

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

Hello Everyone! Today I recorded my show that I do every Wednesday called Freeform Dreadlock Talk. I basically like to share my personal experience with you all from having my Freeform Dreadlocks for 18yrs now.

Today I talked about the importance of incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into your daily eating routine.  I don't like to use the word diet. I once read a book that said that if you break down the word diet it is di- et. Like you die when you eat. May sound silly but that has been stuck in my brain ever since I read it. From my own personal experience I have found that the more fruits and vegetables I eat the better my dreadlocks look and feel.  These foods feed and nourish your Freeform Dreadlocks from the inside out.

So all of the products that people buy to supposedly make their dreadlocks healthy can be damaging them instead.  I think that it is important to first and foremost get your nutrition for your hair from the inside. Sure you can do tons of herbal rinses on your Freeform Dreadlocks with healing and nourishing herbs but if what most of what you put into your body is processed food the herbal rinses are a waste of time.

Like I mentioned in my show today the only meat that I am eating currently is fish.  I also do use dairy and eggs when I cook and bake.  I am learning to use the eggs and dairy in moderation.

I like to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and I cook and prepare meals for my family and myself every night.  It is a nice feeling to know exactly what is going into my food instead depending on restaurants to provide me with the proper nourishment.

Not only does the foods that you put into your body affect the health of your hair, so can stress.  If you do not find the time to go outside and enjoy nature and breathe in natural air outside of air conditioning and unnatural heating your body ,mind, and soul can get totally depleted of energy.  When you leak energy your body performs at a less than desirable way.

So here are my suggestion for all of those out there wanting to improve the health of your dreadlocks:

1. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables everyday.
2. Drink fresh water all day.
3. Spend time in the sun
4. Sit with your back against a tree with your feet bare on Mother Earth
5. Go for walks and move your body to get circulation to your brain promoting healthy hair follicles.
6. Herbal Rinses instead of oils and conditioners.
7 Let your Freeform Dreadlocks style themselves
